WITH A FEW NOTABLE EXCEPTIONS office chairs tend to follow fairly tried and true formulas for design, since ergonomics necessarily rank first in importance. Ergonomics and design aren’t completely incompatible however, as evidenced by HAG’s Conventio Wing chairs. While the bifold crease is largely for looks, the ventilated polypropylene shell definitely helps to keep things cool and comfy. Available in stacking as well as more traditional wheeled versions, these chairs are also 100% recyclable.

Here’s another awesome clock, this one by Henk Stallinga. I found it over at Propeller Modern (which sadly does not have a direct link, so check the Accessories part of their menu). It’s a modern reinterpretation of the grandfather clock. The top tells time, and the bottom is the pendulum. They’re not actually connected in anyway (and run on separate batteries) which is kind of a shame, but the idea is still cool. Comes in three colors and costs $75.

mosaic. light.
November 13, 2007 by sumpit123
Mosaic is the real-world version of what a pixelated light bulb would have looked like on some old 8-bit gaming system. It comes from an amazing studio called &Design in Japan that also makes a pixelated version of the wristwatch. Sadly it seems to be just a prototype so I don’t know if or when it will be available or how much it will cost, but I’m first on the waiting list for one if they make it.

November 10, 2007 by sumpit123
The Miscea sensor faucet is simply amazing … from the technology and the design points of view. The touch free Miscea is not only a faucet but also a dispenser! Not only this sensor faucet makes your daily washing duties completely touch free but it’s also an admirable centerpiece in your bathroom or your kitchen. In the sea of hundreds of faucet designs where almost any idea conceivable has already been exploited, faucet manufacturers are increasingly turning towards use of high technology to gain the market share. The perfect example of a mix of high-end design and modern technology is this Miscea sensor faucet that at your choice can dispense any combination of soap, lotion, disinfectant or detergent. A really unique design, Miscea faucet makes washing your hands easier than ever before. The faucet is operated by placing your hand in front of the desired function button, allowing you to adjust the water temperature, dispense soap or fill a glass with water without having to touch anything. The beautiful stainless steel faucet body is complemented perfectly with the big circular, laser engraved, touch free glass control panel which responds to your hand movements by changing the backlight color depending on your selection, and a stylish LED screen in the center. Walter Knoll Lazy Island
November 9, 2007 by sumpit123
As children, we all love to make cozy dens, and as adults we still love the kind of comfortable, slightly concealed space that the Lazy Island from Walter Knoll provides. We can pretend that it’s just a grown-up and sensible sofa, unfolding the square to make two convenient seating areas in the corner configuration… but we all know that the Walter Knoll Lazy Island must be at its most wonderful when it is shaped into a lovely big square island of repose. The corner sofa provides fantastic relaxation when it is rotated into the more traditional sofa set up – however the ultimate in sprawling luxury is certainly when the two adjustable wings in the backrest are rotated to make the lazy island. Smooth, modern design means the sofa looks great in both positions. Add the fun of this functional indulgence to your living room with the Walter Knoll Lazy Island.
