Origin: South AfricaComposition: recycled antique railroad ties
This beautiful furniture was made from recycled antique railroad ties from South Africa. The wood used in the railroad ties is 200-600 years old!
When the South African railroads were built in the mid to late 1800s, only the highest quality hardwood could be used; the high quality wood had to be able to withstand the extreme heat of the daily African sun and the cold, damp African nights without cracking or splitting.
As the need for the railroads has diminished, the Africans have begun to pull up the railroad ties and deconstruct railroad cars, using the precious wood to carve these incredible pieces. The highest quality teak, red jarrah, yellow jarrah, and panga-panga woods are used (see wood descriptions).
